Yard Sign Project: Engaging the Community with Positive Messages

At First United Methodist Church, we’re always looking for creative ways to engage with our community and spread the love of Christ. We are excited to announce the launch of our new yard sign project, which is designed to share positive and inviting messages with everyone who passes by our church and our private yards. Our Communications Club brainstormed, designed, and produced a unique series of yard signs that will hopefully make an impact and spark curiosity.

This project had a clear goal: to create something that would engage the community, draw attention to our church, and encourage people to think more deeply about their spiritual lives. The final messages are positive, thought-provoking, and fun:

1. Love is Here

A reminder that love is at the center of our faith and at the heart of our church. We want everyone to know that love is always present here, no matter who they are or where they’ve come from.

2. Church is a Third Place

The concept of a “third place” (a place that’s neither home nor work) resonated with us. We want to create a space where people can come together, build community, and find a sense of belonging beyond the walls of their everyday life.

3. Church is Change

This message emphasizes that church is not static; it’s a place for transformation. We’re all on a journey of growth, and our church community is here to support that change in a positive, faith-filled way.

4. Thank God It’s Friday

A fun, light-hearted message celebrating the Easter season. It’s a joyful declaration that reminds us to be thankful for every day, especially as we reflect on the resurrection and the hope it brings for all. This sign will be visible during future Easter seasons.

When planning the less-is-more design, we wanted them to be visually appealing, easy to read, and immediately noticeable from a distance. We chose bold, clear typography and eye-catching colors consistent with our brand to make sure that each sign would stand out. Our team also took into consideration the size and placement of the signs to ensure they would be effective at catching the attention of both pedestrians and drivers. We aimed to create designs that would leave a lasting impression, prompting viewers to stop and think.

Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Mark Nowotarski, we were able to cover the costs of the project and ensure that our vision became a reality. Mark’s support has been invaluable, and we’re incredibly grateful for his dedication to helping our church make an impact in the community. We also thank Yvonne, Carla, Joseph and Koby for contributing to our brainstorming sessions.

The Signs Are Up! Please Help Distribute Them.

We are thrilled to see the signs up around our church and in the local area. We invite everyone to help distribute them on private lawns and anywhere appropriate. They are a simple, yet powerful way to remind everyone that First United Methodist Church is a place where love, change, community, and gratitude are alive and well. We hope these signs serve as a conversation starter, inviting everyone to explore the hope and joy that come with being part of a faith community.

If you see one of our signs, we invite you to take a moment to reflect on the message and consider visiting us for a service or community gathering. We welcome you with open arms.
