Music

Music is an important part of worship at First United Methodist Church; it is a vehicle for proclaiming the beauty, depth and breadth of God, and gives expression to our inmost emotions in a different way from the spoken word.

Music helps form Christian character, teaches scripture and doctrine, builds community, communicates the Gospel to our neighbors, and is a means of service to God and one another.

Our worship features a variety of musical styles performed by Chancel & Festival Choirs, Handbell Choir, Children’s Choir as well as guest artists.

“Glorify the Lord with me; Let us exalt his name together.” (Psalm 34:3)

Chancel & Festival Choir

The Chancel Choir is a dynamic group of singers serving God through music in many styles. Along with weekly participation in the 10:30 a.m. worship services, and is an integral part of the music ministry at FUMC.

The Festival choir is designed for people who want to sing for special programs, such as Christmas, Holy Week, and Easter. The choirs are open to all who want to sing God’s praises!

Chancel Choir Rehearsals: Wednesday, 7:30 p.m. – 9 p.m., and Sunday, 9:45 a.m. – 10:15 a.m.

Festival Choir Rehearsals: Wednesday 7:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. (seasonal)

Handbell Choir

The handbell choir provides a unique place for adults and students in grades 9-12 to participate in vibrant music ministry. Handbell techniques are taught and friendships are developed through the team effort that makes a handbell choir. We use five octaves of Schulmerich Bells and 2 octaves of Malmark Chimes in the bell ministry.

Rehearsals: Sunday 9:30 a.m. – 10:15 a.m. and Wednesday 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. in the choir room

Children’s Choir

We believe that our children need opportunities to use their talent for God’s Kingdom. Children & Youth Choir provides a nurturing, fun environment where they can grow musically and spiritually. Parents may attend coffee hour for informal fellowship while the children are rehearsing. They participate regularly in worship services, including the Christmas Pageant at 5:00 on Christmas Eve, and many other holiday services.

Rehearsals: Sunday, following the 10:30 a.m. service.
